A Common Fear- Public Speaking

It is rather widely known that one of the biggest fears of the American public is public speaking. Some people would rather eat a live worm than speak in front of a group of people. The problem others may have with public speaking is that they are afraid. There may be several reasons why they are afraid. They may not feel knowledgeable with what they are speaking about, they may not like being the center of attention as they feel someone may think they are stupid, or they may want to excel but don’t think they will. Practice and repeatedly speaking in public can help dissolve some of the fear, but some cases may need speech coaching to get them over their fears.

For those that don’t have a fear of public speaking and are sought out by the media, preparation is key. Journalists and talk show hosts have gone to school to receive their training in knowing what to ask you, but how many people know the correct body language to display on camera or how to answer questions with confidence. Top executives, political candidates, TV appearances and other influential persons take advantage of media training so that they are fully prepared when speaking in any media forum.
