Be Prepared for Your Dog’s New Arrival

Before adding a new member to your family, a dog or puppy, you should make certain preparations. Anywhere the family is, your dog will want to be. The kitchen, bedroom and living room have some hazards that you may not realize and you will want your dog to be healthy and happy. Keep your garbage in the closed pantry or under a sink where the dog cannot get into it. Choking on chicken bones, and plastic bags can happen to the unsuspecting puppy. Teach your dog to stay out of the kitchen by command so that you can clean up any glass breakages. Electrical cords should be wrapped and tucked away and all personal items like shoes and toys should be kept picked up. Plugged in air fresheners should be removed until you are sure your dog will not chew it up. Bathrooms should have toilet tank refresheners removed and the bowl should be closed. Medications should also be kept way out of reach.

For your puppy’s health, you should purchase quality puppy food and depending on the breed, let them eat whenever they are hungry. Consult your vet for the best guidelines for feeding older dogs. Natural dog treats are preservative free and have the protein needs of your dog. When training your dog, use healthy dog treats as repetitive treat feeding will be necessary to teach your dog tricks, commands and even their name. Dog jerky can be a healthy snack that can also be a teether and chew toy. Before you bring a new puppy or dog, be certain your home is ready and you have all that they need to be a happy new addition to your family.
